Hello, I am a Nix/Nicks descendent. My earliest known Nix ancestor is Joseph Nix who was born around 1805 and married Delilah Holden in Surry County NC in 1828.
I am trying to find out who Joseph’s parents might have been.
Aside from his marriage in Surry County, I have nothing else to connect Joseph to the Nix’s of Surry and western NC, though there is a George Nix of Surry in 1820 with males in the household that could be Joseph.
Joseph lived in Person county in 1840, and in 1850 and after lived in Alamance County.
On the 1850 census, Joseph is said to have been born in Guilford County.
There is a Joseph Nicks living in Wake county in 1790.
There is a Jospeh Nicks who was bondsman for Susannah Nicks’ marriage to Albert Peeler in Orange County in 1793.
I also found an unsubstantiated record for a birth of Joseph Nicks, 1803 in Orange County. Parents were Joseph Nicks and Marie Ann Mason.
If anyone could help with information or could point me in the right direction, I’d greatly appreciate it.
Thank you, Martin Coble

My name is thomas merck and I have a picture that is very old and came from my grandmother, I was her great grad father from Clare Mich. The caption reads F.H. Nix and son. I have been trying to find ppl from my family. I am from S.C. and her father was named Butler. I now live in Arkansas . I also have a sword from the Knights Of Columbus that belonged to the Nix family. My Grand mother talked of her family fighting in the Colonial wars and confederate War. and also spoke of her relatives in Mich.
